“Current Best Practices for Generating and Managing CT Scan Data of Fossils”
In October 2024, a few NoCTURN members hosted a hands on workshop at the Society for Vertebrate Paleontology (SVP) Meeting, to present on and discuss the current standards and culture of maintaining CT data of fossils.
Catherine Early, April Neander, Liz Martin-Silverstone, and Morgan Chase gathered their knowledge and experience in a pre-conference workshop catered to the unique problems and scenarios around fossils and CT scanning. Workshop participants gained insights into the current landscape of data generation, publication, and sharing, with the ultimate goal of writing a Data Management Plan and improving the tools available to them in every step of the journey of acquiring CT data; from proposing a project to a collections manager, to publishing their work.
The workshop included individuals of all career stages, and so great discussion was had both between the panel and participants, and between participants. NoCTURN is all about bringing voices to the table, and we are excited about publishing some products from the workshop to benefit our wider audience!
There will be no greater opportunity to benefit from NoCTURN than at our 3rd and FINAL in person meeting this May 15-16 at the American Museum of Natural History! Please fill out the registration form here so that you can join us.
